The 2nd part of Cristiano Ronaldo’s explosive interview with Piers Morgan on the ‘Piers Morgan Uncensored’ segment was aired on Thursday on TalkTV. The interview with the Manchester United man was 90-minutes long but divided into two 45-minute segments on Piers Morgan’s segment where he revealed some controversial information about his current club since his return. Even opening up on how he feels about his long-term rival Lionel Messi.
The 2nd part of the segment opened with Ronaldo revealing what he has observed in terms of the evolution of football in recent years saying, “Piers let’s be honest, the last years football change. I see football now as a business to be honest”. “Sometimes Georgina have expression that ‘I don’t understand they treat you players like piece of meat'”, Ronaldo further added on what his wife has also observed about the current nature of the footballing industry.
Ronaldo further addressed his pre-season late attendance and revealed it was due to his daughter falling ill during the holidays and so he was forced to attend to the family matter. He further added that he felt the Sporting Director and president of Manchester United didn’t believe him when he let them know of the ill-health of his daughter, and did say that this hurt him a lot. The Portuguese followed on with addressing his decision to leave the stadium early at the game against Tottenham Hotspur, “it’s something that I regret to leave from the stadium”, Ronaldo said. “But in the same way I felt provoked by the coach, not allowed for me a coach to put me three minutes in a game, I’m sorry I’m not that kind of player”, he further commented.
Piers Morgan then proceeded to ask Cristiano Ronaldo about his feelings on Erik Ten Hag and whether he thinks the United boss respects him or not, to which Ronaldo replied “I think he don’t, he don’t respect me the way I think I deserve”. Ronaldo further claims that Erik Ten Hag’s comments on not bringing Cristiano on in their 6-3 defeat to City (“I did it to respect his legacy”) he see them as “excuses”. Since he says these are excuses by Ten Hag, Ronaldo further added that he “doesn’t respect” the Dutch-born manager because he himself doesn’t show Cristiano respect.
On a clip that Morgan previously shared on his Twitter account of Cristiano Ronaldo criticizing the owners of the club, The Glazers, was also taken from the 2nd part of the interview. “The owners do not care about the club”, Ronaldo said. Morgan asked Cristiano about his future at Manchester United, and Ronaldo shared that “my mood right now is to the World Cup, it’s probably my last World Cup of course”. Ronaldo also revealed that he turned down a huge amount of money, a 350 million pounds deal with a Saudi Arabia club, amongst other offers from other clubs which the star claims he turned down because he “felt comfortable at Manchester United at the time. The forward is revealed is looking forward to playing the World Cup with Portugal and labelled France, Spain, Argentina, Germany, Brazil and England saying they have a chance to lift the trophy. He also said, “another player can score, I don’t care, I’ll be a happy man”, this came after Piers Morgan played out a scenario for the Portuguese of him scoring a hattrick against Argentina to bring home the trophy while Leo Messi had scored two for his country. Further saying, “I will say, I will finish football if this happens”, saying he’ll retire if that scenario comes into fruition.
The pair would then continue to speak about Cristiano Ronaldo’s relationship and thought with his long-time rival, Lionel Messi. Piers Morgan poised the question “what do you think of him, Messi?”, and Ronaldo didn’t hesitate with his response. “Amazing, as a player he’s magic, top. As a person we shared the stage 16 years, imagine 16 years. I have great relationship with him, I’m not friend of him–but he’s like a teammate the way he also speaks about me”, Ronaldo added. “Best player you’ve ever seen, excluding yours?”, Ronaldo answered with “probably yes, him and Zidane”.
Manchester United has released a club statement in the wake of Ronaldo’s comments against Manchester United in his interview. “Manchester United has this morning initiated appropriate steps in response to Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent media interview. We will not be making further comment until this process reaches its conclusion”.
