Kaizer Chiefs averted another potentially damaging result in the DStv Premiership by coming from behind twice to secure an ultimately thrilling 2-2 draw with Stellenbosch FC at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Following a goalless first half, where home midfielder Nkosingiphile Ngcobo was denied a goal from a spectacular volley that hit the post and Stanley Dimgba notably missed a glorious chance for the visitors with no defender in sight, the match burst to life in the final 20 minutes.
Stellenbosch started the procession of scores in the 72nd minute when Nathan Sinkala headed in after Chiefs goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi failed to gather a cross, only for AmaKhosi to equalise four minutes later through Leandro Castro.
Dimgba atoned for his earlier blunder by providing a neat cross for Phathutshedzo Nange, who launched a powerful header to restore Stellenbosch’s lead three minutes later.
Showing the type of steel that’s been missing for the majority of the league campaign, Chiefs struck back again another three minutes later through Ngcobo, who connected beautifully with a Happy Mashiane cross.
The result lifts Gavin Hunt’s men to ninth on the log.
