By 17/09/2022No Comments

Real Madrid travel to the Wanda Metropolitano to take on fierce city rivals Atletico Madrid, the Madrid Derby. It is a big game that many footballs would be looking towards, and on Sunday neither team will want to disappoint their loyal fans. Elsewhere, at the Spotify Camp Nou, Barcelona will be hosting Elche looking to continue to challenge for the title.

Los Blancos are undefeated in all competitions this season going into this match and are fresh off a resounding 4-1 win againt Mallorca in the la Liga. The current Spanish champions are 1st on the La Liga standings with a perfect record of 5 wins from 5 games and boast a record of 15 points. Atletico Madrid on the other hand have 3 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss and are 7th with 10 points from 5 games.

With the injury of star player Karim Benzema you would think Diego Simeone’s men would not have any problems against their rivals. However, on contrary, Real are stacked in every department from the goalkeeking department to the striking department, with the likes of Thibaut Courtois, David Alaba, Fede Valverde and Brazilian wonders Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo Goes. They have already been able to score 15 goals

Atletico have only been able to notch in 9 goal so far this season in La Liga and are also coming off the back of convincing 4-1 win, against Celta Vigo. They’ll need to work very hard to keep that Madrid midfield at bay, especially with veteran Luka Modric showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon and Federico Valverde scoring 2 brilliant goals in his last 2 games. Atetico’s midfield has also been very efficient in providing goals for their side, and the front two of Morata and Felix also helping the cause with 3 goals and 3 assists respectively.

The European champions have been able to put on convincing displays this season, and in the Champions League where they’re 2 of 2 and are currently top of their group. Atletico are 3rd in their Champions league group following a 2-0 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen. On what is expected to be a tight clash, you can’t be faulted for picking Real Madrid for the win.

Prior to this match, Barcelona will be looking ro bounce back from a midweek defeat to German giants in the Champions League when they take on Elche. Elche are winless in La Liga this season and are 20th, bottom of the Liga standings. A convincing Barca win is to be expected with confidence.
