Sundowns crowned the DSTV premiership Champions for a 4th time in a row

CHAMPIONS! Mamelodi Sundowns clinch fourth consecutive PSL title

clinched their recosetting fourth consecutive title with a win over 10-man at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Wednesday.

Sundowns become the first team to win the league title in four consecutive seasons in 2017/2018, 2018/2019, 2019/2020 and the current 2020/2021 campaign.

Goals by Lebohang Maboe, Aubrey Modiba and Themba Zwane ensured that Sundowns were crowned champions with three matches to spare in the 2020/2021 season.

SuperSport’s Tebogo Mokoena scored a consolation goal in the 86th minute with a trademark long-range effort that left Denis Onyango with no chance.

The match was effectively over as a contest when SuperSport were reduced to 10 men as Guily Manziba received a straight red card for a thigh-high challenge in the 8th minute.

Masandawana scored a flurry of goals against their Tshwane rivals just before the half-time break to take an unassailable lead.

Sundowns have incredibly only trailed for a total of 10 minutes throughout the entire league campaign and have already surpassed last season’s title-winning points tally of 59.

It is the first league crown for new head coach duo Manqoba Mngqithi and Rhulani Mokwena in their maiden season at the helm since replacing Pitso Mosimane.

The formidable Brazilians look set to extend their era of domestic dominance but will fall just short of a record high points tally over a season.

With a possible maximum points tally of 69 attainable from their final three fixtures, they will at best fall short of the 71-point total they set during the 2015/16 season.
