The NBA made its long awaited return on Wednesday (Thursday, CAT) and the fans were treated to a very big game very early on in the season when the Los Angeles Lakers took on the ‘Dub Nation’, Golden State Warriors. LeBron James would kick off his 20th year in the NB with a loss to the Warriors. The opening game game saw the Boston Celtics defeat the Philadelphia 76ers to kick off what is set to be a long basketball season.
The Celtics are set to go again this season to challenge for the championship after losing in Game 6 of The Finals against the Golden State Warriors. Their first test came up against James Harden and Joel Embiid’s 76ers, it was the Celtics duo of Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum that put up a commanding effort to overpower the defense of Philadelphia. The duo dropped 35 points each with Tatum also posting up 12 rebounds in the game and 4 assists to get the 126-117 win for Boston. James Harden recorded 35 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists and Joel Embiid put up 26 points, 15 points and 5 assists but even his double-double was not enough to overcome the Celtics teamwork.
NBA Champions Golden State Warriors accepted their 2021-2022 Championship Rings ahead of the game against the Lakers. The Dubs ended the night on a high too when they proved too much for the Lakers to handle, a Lakers side that recently added Patrick Beverly to their roster for the new season. Steph Curry’s 33 points were helpful enough to give the Warriors a 123-109 win over the Lakers, who had LeBron lining up for the first game of his 20th year in the NBA. The King put up 31 points, 14 rebounds, 8 assists almost coming out of the game with a triple-double, and even his efforts were not enough to stop the champions. An underwhelming from PatBev (Patrick Beverly) as he only managed 3 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists in his first game for Lakers.
