The DStv Premiership is a unique and unpredictable league that provides so much excitement to the supporters. Last season we saw Mamelodi Sundowns win the league comfortably, 13 points ahead of second placed Amazulu, and I do fancy them to do the same this season.
As much as we would all love to see a competitive Dstv Premiership going down to wire with a few teams challenging for the title, I believe Sundowns will comfortably will the league as they have not lost any of their top players and have bolstered their squad with some quality recruitment’s including Pavol Safranko, Divine Lunga, Neo Maema, Grant Kekana and Thabiso Kutumela.
Stuart Baxter has returned to the helm at Kaizer Chiefs for a second stint and will provide stability to the team. Chiefs did exceptionally well to reach the final of the CAF Champions League last season which will provide motivation to their players for the upcoming campaign. Keagan Dolly is an exciting signing that will add to Chiefs’ attacking line-up as they make up the chasing pack.
The Buccaneers are currently coach-less following the resignation of Josef Zinnbauer however they have two astute and experienced local coaches in both Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids. Pirates will surely find a suitable head coach replacement however a partnership between Ncikazi and Davids could prove to be useful, similar to Sundowns coaching trio of Mngqithi, Komphela and Mokwena. Although Pirates have strengthened their squad, I believe they will form part of the chasing pack that includes Kaizer Chiefs and Cape Town City fighting it out for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th positions on the Dstv Premiership log.
Last season was disappointing for Cape Town City after finishing 7th on the Dstv Premiership log with a goal difference of +2. Cape Town City are a club that possess resources, a talented squad and an experienced coach in Eric Tinkler who has returned for a second stint at the helm, that could prove to be the right combination to challenge for a place in the league’s top four this season.
My DSTV Premiership Top Four Prediction:
- Mamelodi Sundowns
- Orlando Pirates
- Kaizer Chiefs
- Cape Town City
